Heating oil is a heavy fuel oil that is derived from crude oil. Heating oil accounts for about 25% of the yield from a barrel of crude oil thus the price of heating oil is highly correlated to the price of crude. Heating oil is commonly used for fuel for furnaces and boilers in buildings resulting in higher demand during the winter months from October through March with a drop off during the summer. Heating oil is quoted in US Dollars per gallon, equivalent to 4.55 litres.
